Hello Everyone
Sorry it’s been a while since the last update.
I have to begin with the very sad news about the sudden passing last week of Dave Sturman. Dave had been a member for many years and is well known to lots of us. He leaves us with a very significant legacy – it was his skilled labour which was instrumental in the construction of the canopy over the 50m point, which is used by many of us now and will be for a long time into the future. I have an abiding memory of Dave working on part of the structure one Saturday morning in the pouring rain; he needed no help, he just got on with what he was doing until the job was finished to his satisfaction. The work he did was of top quality, and saved the club literally thousands of pounds that we would had to have paid to get the job done – almost certainly less well – commercially. I have been in contact with Janet, his wife, and passed on condolences from myself and on behalf of the rest of the club. His funeral is a private family one next Tuesday morning at Great Glen crematorium. I think it would be appropriate to put up a memorial plaque inside the 50m canopy when the time is right.
Looking ahead to happier things, don’t forget the September 6th guest day is also our next barbeque. Such was the success of the last one that this one is being keenly anticipated. Please let Julie know ASAP if you are able to attend. Contact her at julie.napier02.
We also have a special corporate session on the previous Saturday, August 30th. Griff is bringing a group of his workmates for a ‘have a go’ firearms session in the morning, with a clay shooting session in the afternoon. The range will be open to members as usual in the morning, but please be prepared to give someone a bit of coaching and a try of one of your guns. I’ll be bringing one or two of my own more interesting items, and it should be a fun session as well as raising a few quid for club funds.
Finally, a reminder that the weekend of August 30/31 is the deadline for submitting the summer 25m comp cards for both the benchrest and off-elbows comps. Please can you make sure you have your cards named and witnessed.
