Hello Everyone
I hope you’re all keeping safe and well.
The first item concerns our opening arrangements over the festive period. The shooting ground is closed on Christmas Day and New Years Day only, and so are we. Other than those two days, our schedule will be as normal, except for Boxing Day, which falls on a Friday. This is normally a 100m day, but this session will be 25m and include a little competition for anyone who wants to enter it. The following Friday (Jan 2nd) will be back to 100m as usual.
I have attached the scores for the Autumn 25m competitions and the 2025 100m comp. In view of the experience gained with these over the last year or so, there are going to be some changes.
The 25m ‘off elbows’ comp is proving very popular and increasingly competitive. Therefore, in response to requests from several members, we are running an additional one, but this time for iron sights only. The target cards will be the same but can only be shot with iron-sighted rifles, off elbows, but using a sling if you like. Cards for these comps will be provided in the black shed in the next week or so.
Secondly, the 25m benchrest comp is proving less popular, largely due to the time it takes to get the cards shot. Therefore for this winter season, only two cards need to be submitted, with the other cards in the pack being used for practice. This should give more people a chance to shoot them before the end of February.
Thirdly, there is a completely new 100m competition, sponsored by Stan and to be shot on the third Friday of each month. There will a monthly prize and a shield at the end of the year for the overall winner. I will put up more details about this in the next week or so. The present 100m comp can be run in parallel, but it will need someone to volunteer to run it, as I don’t have the time to carry on with it myself. It’s not a particularly demanding job to run in itself; it just needs the targets distributing and collecting, and the results recorded. If anyone wants to take this on, please let me know ASAP.
It only remains for me to wish you all the very best for the festive season.
Best regards
